Camping Fabulous in Rome

4 Jun

Camping Fabulous is totally fabulous. Once you decide to visit Rome, the biggest challenge is finding a place to stay. Should it be in the center of the city or outside of it?

Definitely outside! It’s surprising how many campings you find with all kind of services. We chose Camping Fabulous, because it was well connected to the city, and had some pools there in the pictures.

It was confusing and until we got there, we expected the worst. So, the surprise was even bigger: huge area full of tents and bungalows, close to the sea, to the ‘hugest’ shopping center-EURoma2, tennis fields, volleyball, football.

We had a cute bungalow with 3 beds, fridge, bathroom, many closets and a nice table with chairs outside, perfect for breakfast in the nature. We had all kind of neighbors, from the cute gay couple to Indian families, punk couple, German old couple, Scandinavian girls. It was lots of life and plenty of multiculti in those 10 closest bungalows. On the whole campsite there was a great mixture of cultures in tents, bungalows, or even mobile homes. I can’t give you a number, but there was a whole little village in Camping Fabulous.

We only went out of our bungalow to scout the campsite the 3rd evening, cause we were dead tired the other days: visiting Rome can be pretty tiring. In the Amphitheater there was a show going on- games for children, dancing moves for everybody- a dj, Jessica and Alessia as animators. It was sooo much fun seeing how people of all kind of ages have fun. It’s what you see on Rai Uno. I grew up with the tv shows from that channel. All the people were full of joy, were dancing, singing, fooling around, playing all kind of funny games. That’s what we found on Camping Fabulous: lots of joy and fun.

Things to do:

Starting the next day we discovered more and more fabulous things around the camping. We spent 3 amazing days at the poolside – laguna pool and a semiolimpic pool, umbrellas, beds, palm trees, toboggan.

Every morning Jessica takes care that everybody looks like a topmodel with half an hour of  ‘aqua gym’. You can leave your kids with Allessia- she’s babysitting or making a programm at kids club.

If you get bored of lying in the sun, you can play tennis (8euro/h) or volleyball. Or maybe just read a book under the shadow of the trees. They have a very nice system over there: you can borrow books and magazines from there. You bring one and take another one in exchange. Pretty fabulous idea. It fits the whole camping idea. You have plenty of time on the campus to read, why not get a book from there if you only brought one with you?

There’s an internet point where the internet is pretty expensive imo: 2euro for an hour.

But who needs technology on such a fabulous camping that has so much to offer?

Every evening there’s a special program. They have a small info point where they pin the program for that day.

Not only children are pampered, couples can spend very nice their evenings.

One night we were surprised by some Latino dance lessons, but serious ones with an instructor.    A whole yard full of couples concentrated on learning the steps. Absolutely fabulous! We heard the music after we left for more than an hour, so I suppose the whole lesson lasted more than 3 hours.

On the next evenings there were games for couples or men vs. woman games, disco night. I wonder what else we missed, after we came home. I already miss that spirit. It’s a perfect getaway for at least one month.

Because my mother celebrated her birthday there she got a nice card on her bed and some gifts on the card: free ice-cream, an hour of free internet, a mini golf game and some other reductions.

So we learned to play mini-golf. It was soooo much fun, and that field was pretty tricky, but we hit some holes and laughed a lot.

There are some other information points alongside the tennis fields, little bungalows. There, you can find other destinations for the next vacation, with the same idea of a camping. I’m thinking of trying out the Camping idea in Prague (cause I just love that city and want to go back there), maybe in Berlin, and why not in other Italian cities, like Firenze or maybe going back to Camping Fabulous in Rome?!

Camping Fabulous was definitely the best choice for visiting Rome and having a relaxing time, a real vacation.

Other facilities on the Camping Fabulous

*there are also some minuses: the water. It’s either freezing or hot. It’s good to have a shower and water in the bungalow but it’s difficult to adjust the temperature of the water.

++ for those who choose the tents or have a mobile home there’s a huge bathroom in the middle of the camping, with showers and toilets, and it’s pretty clean. The pool has also very clean and nice toilets.

You can also find running water (taps) all over the camping, close to your tent, so that you can wash your dishes.

There’s a little supermercato where you find things, but they are pretty expensive. There are some other options for shopping (food) at EURoma2: Ipercoop – take the bus 709 or 070 and you’ll see on the left side the huge mall and people always stop there. You only have to cross the street and be careful not to miss the entrance and go thru the parking.

Another mercato is Elitte – we never went there, but it’s also close – you take the bus 070, from the station were you get off to get to the camping and go in the other direction, not Rome. You should see it on the left side. We found Carrefour on our way to the see – and it was the best choice.

Getting to Rome takes about 40 minutes- 15 minutes with bus 709 or bus 070 to Metro Station: EUR Fermi, and from there it depends what station you pick. To the Colosseum there are 10 stops, so, around 20 minutes.

To get to the sea there’s a bus- 070. It’s called litoranea. You just have to ask where to get off. It’s a half an hour way from the camping. There’s also a complicated way to get to the public beaches in Ostia. That’s some info you find at the Internet Point inside the Camping Fabulous.

–The staff wasn’t as nice as we expected. They don’t really like to talk in English, but we heard them talk in a perfect German or Dutch. But they don’t feel comfortable giving many infos in English, so they stick to answering your questions. I would have appreciated to get the information’s about the evening programs when we checked in, and to tell us to find the pools and the fields, cause we missed 2 evenings because we didn’t know that they were so nice and have a program and really take care of the campers. Or it would have been even better to find the information’s on the website. I’m a planned person and I hesitated when I had to pick the Camping Fabulous. I only picked it, cause it was in the nature, away from the city and I missed such a getaway. But if I knew all the nice things they organize and that they think about all the details I would have chosen it without thinking.

We were there from the 27th of May and 3rd June – and the weather and water were Fabulous! (also the prices (10 euro per bed/per night) were a little lower than during the season)

I hope this will make you think about trying out the Camping Fabulous, now that the real season just started.

Have a fabulous time!

I’m Alessandra and I work in this beautifull place called Fabulous.

I’m working in the reception with italians, seasonal netherland’s, mixed origin people multi-speaking people.
Some of us are there the whole year, some only for the season….
We are not perfect and we work hard, but whit the hope to welcome everybody in the best way.
A present of our guests is a smile and theyr happyness in our place.
It’s not true that we prefer to speak german or dutch but everybody has a strong point and working on shifts you don’t have always the same person serving you.
I’m sorry for the missing information but with soooo much things to do, for us in the reception and for you inside the campside, it’s not easy to find the right way to get smiling all the persons that we welcome.

    Hello,

I’ve found your blog when I was looking for the information about the Fabulous camping. I’m glad that I’ve found someone who has been there;) I hope you will answer my questions.
I’m going to visit this place on September. How far is the beach? How can I get to the beach from the camping? How much is bus ticket to Rome? Are there any night buses ( I really what to see Rome at night but I’m worry that I will not have transport to get back to the camping). I’m going to go there with my own tent and going to spend all days in Rome. I’m scared that someone could robbed my tent while I’ll be in ROme – are there any security?

Please write my on my e-mail

    Thanks

    Agnieszka (Poland)

    Hi!
sorry for the late answer, I was gone for a week.
The beach is not that far – there’s a local bus – 701 or 709..(i’m not sure…and it takes about 30 min) You should ask someone.
There are some other ways also to get to the beach – you should ask at the reception.
There’s a one week ticket for busses and metros that costs 16 euros – it’s the best deal. If not, a one way ticket costs 2 euros.
And there are some night buses, but I don’t know which one. There are bus schedules at the Information point in Fabulous.
The place it’s pretty secure from what I saw.

    Have a nice holiday!
